A family of five has been charged in connection with the alleged murder of a man and recently appeared in the Lautoka High Court. The individuals facing charges include Rusiate Lal, Ronald Lal, Ron Lal, Sundar Lal, and Balewai Waqabaca, with all accused facing one count of murder related to the death of Eneri Abbas Ali.

The incident reportedly occurred on September 19, 2021, when Ali was allegedly assaulted by the family members, leading to his death. The court learned that Ali was in a de facto relationship with the daughter of Sundar Lal and Balewai Waqabaca and had intended to meet with the family the day after the incident to seek forgiveness for having impregnated her before marriage and to take her home.

Sundar Lal and Balewai Waqabaca are a married couple, and their children, Rusiate, Ronald, and Ron, are also charged in this case. Although the trial was scheduled to commence this week, it has been adjourned, with the new trial date set for March 9, 2026.

This case highlights the complexities and challenges surrounding family dynamics and relationships, particularly when they intersect with legal issues. It underscores the importance of addressing such matters until justice is served.
