The Radisson Blu Mirage Resort, a major development project in Fiji, is making progress despite delays. Originally set to be completed by the first quarter of 2026, the $250 million resort’s timeline has been pushed to early 2027 due to various challenges, including issues with local concrete supply, steel manufacturing disruptions, and compliance requirements from project funders, namely the Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF) and Bank of the South Pacific (BSP).

Bob Lowres, Managing Director of Relcorp (Fiji) Pte Ltd, the developer, expressed confidence that the project would meet the revised 2027 completion date, assuming no unexpected obstacles like cyclones emerge. He emphasized the careful selection of contractors, noting that working with China Railway No. 5, a state-owned entity, helps ensure the project remains on schedule.

“We had significant issues initially with local concrete supply and a breakdown of the local steel manufacturer which caused delays. We have since made modifications to our plan, and with FNPF and BSP involved, we needed to satisfy their pre-sale criteria,” Lowres said.

Sustainability is a core focus of the project, with Lowres highlighting that proper consultations have been conducted and all requisite regulatory approvals obtained. Project manager Andrew Gouldings is dedicated to maintaining rigorous oversight of the builders to uphold sustainability standards.

The development of the Radisson Blu Mirage Resort aims not only to elevate Fiji’s standing in international tourism but also to honor local traditions. To achieve this, Australia-based DBI Architects and the acclaimed Fijian firm AAPi Design collaborated to create a resort that resonates with both modern aesthetics and local culture.

Once completed, the resort is expected to create nearly 500 jobs for locals and generate around $36 million in potential income for the Fijian economy, contributing positively to the nation’s growth and development in the tourism sector.
