Fiji’s Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has urged citizens to embody peace, compassion, and unity throughout the Christmas season. He emphasized the importance of preserving Fiji’s reputation as a beacon of harmony amid its rich tapestry of cultures, faiths, and traditions. In his heartfelt Christmas message, Mr. Rabuka called on Fijians to be proactive in promoting cooperation, not only within the Pacific region but also on a global scale.

The Prime Minister encouraged families and communities to extend their support to those in less fortunate circumstances, highlighting the crucial role of empathy and kindness. He stated, “If a family member, neighbour or friend is in need, reach out and offer your support. Let us restore and strengthen the loving and caring spirit for which our people have long been known.”

In light of existing global tensions, Mr. Rabuka reaffirmed Fiji’s dedication to dialogue, respect, and goodwill as foundational principles for maintaining peace and harmony. He expressed optimism for the forthcoming year, asserting that with unity, hard work, faith, and resilience, Fiji could fortify its economy and create valuable opportunities for its youth, ensuring that everyone benefits from progress.

Drawing inspiration from the Sermon on the Mount, he quoted, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God… Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.”

As the message concluded, the Prime Minister offered warm Christmas greetings to families both in Fiji and around the world, wishing everyone a “blessed and joyful Christmas” alongside a “peaceful, healthy and prosperous New Year.” His message serves as a reminder of the importance of unity and a caring community, especially as Fiji anticipates new possibilities in the year to come.
