People First has officially joined the political landscape of Fiji as the newest political party following the approval of its application by the Registrar of Political Parties, Ana Mataiciwa, on November 20, 2025. This development signifies an expansion of the country’s political diversity, with the total number of registered political parties now reaching eight.

In her announcement, Mataiciwa revealed that four objections were lodged against the party’s registration, focusing on concerns related to the party’s name, its symbol, and aspects of the party constitution. After carefully assessing the objections, she determined that all four were unfounded and subsequently dismissed.

Despite the dismissal, the objectors retain the right to appeal the decision within a 14-day window, directing their concerns to the Electoral Commission. This procedural step ensures that all voices are heard in the political arena, reflecting a commitment to fairness and transparency in Fiji’s democratic processes.

The emergence of People First is anticipated to invigorate political discourse in the country, providing voters with more choices and encouraging larger participation in the democratic process.
