Regular physical activity is essential in the battle against cancer, according to Assistant Minister for Health Penioni Ravunawa. He encourages the public to embrace an active lifestyle as a significant measure to lower the risk of developing the disease.

Addressing participants at the Fiji Cancer Society’s World Cancer Day walk in Suva, Ravunawa underscored that while routine health check-ups are vital, maintaining a healthy lifestyle through balanced nutrition and physical activity is crucial for cancer prevention. “Cancer is a serious concern for the Ministry of Health and Medical Services. It is imperative that we understand our health, eat nutritious foods, and stay physically active,” he stated.

Ravunawa also pointed out the importance of family and community support in this fight, noting that events like the cancer walk reflect national unity and solidarity against cancer. The event saw participants completing a 5km walk around Albert Park, culminating in engaging warm-up and cool-down Zumba sessions organized by Zumba with Liti.

Fitness instructor Litiana Miller expressed her pleasure at witnessing strong community engagement. She emphasized that physical activity not only promotes better health but also supports a meaningful cause like cancer prevention.

Regular exercise has become a vital component of Fiji’s cancer prevention initiatives, reinforcing fitness as a pivotal aspect of leading a healthier life. The community’s active involvement in such initiatives highlights a collaborative effort toward a healthier future.
