Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation has called on Fiji’s tourism industry to embrace a future characterized by transparency, accountability, and collaboration. This appeal was made during the Third Fiji Tourism Convention held in Nadi, where Gavoka celebrated the sector’s accomplishments, including remarkable visitor arrival numbers.

He pointed out that the success of the tourism sector depends not just on government initiatives but also on the dedicated individuals who enhance the industry, such as hoteliers, tour guides, chefs, dive masters, farmers, artisans, and entrepreneurs. This collective effort plays a vital role in the sector’s vitality.

Gavoka noted a significant milestone in tourism, with over a million visitors arriving by air and sea to Fiji. While this marks a modest growth of 0.3%, it is noteworthy given the immense contributions tourism makes to the Fijian economy. He expressed optimism for the future, predicting a steady growth trajectory with an anticipated 3.4% expansion in 2025, building on a 3.5% increase in 2024. Gavoka reiterated that tourism remains a global powerhouse, and Fiji must align itself with this overarching growth trend.

Furthermore, he stressed the importance of resilience, inclusivity, and readiness for the future within the sector. The two-day convention, titled “Tourism beyond Boundaries,” serves as a platform for key government agencies, industry leaders, and international stakeholders to discuss essential policies, address sector challenges, and explore opportunities for sustainable growth. This collaborative approach is essential for navigating the evolving landscape of global tourism and ensuring Fiji’s continued success in the sector.
