The Fiji Sports Council Board is taking significant steps to address recent allegations against the Council by planning to appoint an independent investigator. This decision was made during a special meeting on February 17, where six board members were present. Chair Peniasi Sokia expressed that the primary objective of the meeting was to examine the allegations in depth, alongside the relevant documentation, and decide on the next steps.

Sokia emphasized the seriousness of the claims, leading to a unanimous agreement among board members to initiate an investigation. Currently, the board is in discussions with professional auditors and investigators to establish their availability for a thorough inquiry at the earliest opportunity.

Acknowledging the severity of the situation, Sokia remarked that additional comments will be withheld until an investigator is appointed. This move to involve independent professionals reflects the board’s dedication to transparency and accountability during this challenging time, reassuring stakeholders about the integrity of the Council’s operations. By committing to an independent review, the Fiji Sports Council aims to maintain public trust and uphold the values of fairness in addressing these allegations.
