The Fiji Airways men’s 7s team has made an impressive mark at the Perth Sevens by successfully advancing to the semi-finals after a series of strong performances in their pool matches. They opened their campaign with a commanding victory over Argentina, winning 26-10. This victory set the tone for their next match against Spain, which proved to be a nail-biter.

In the tightly contested game against Spain, Fiji managed a narrow 26-24 win, thanks in part to the outstanding performance of Kavekini Tanivanuakula. Coming off the bench in the second half, Tanivanuakula scored two crucial tries, keying Fiji’s comeback effort. The match saw Spain take the lead early, capitalizing on a yellow card issued to Fiji’s Joseva Talacolo for a deliberate knockdown, allowing Jeremy Trevithick to score.

Fiji responded with tries from Sevuloni Mocenacagi and Viwa Naduvalo, yet Spain maintained a slim lead going into halftime, ending the first period at 19-14. However, Tanivanuakula leveled the match with an impressive 80-meter run before Spain managed to score again. A missed conversion for Spain at the end of the match allowed Fiji to clinch the victory at 26-24.

This strong performance not only showcases Fiji’s resilience and skill on the field but also reinforces their reputation as one of the top contenders in rugby sevens. With a place in the semi-finals secured, the team looks poised for an exciting challenge ahead, as they continue their pursuit of glory at the tournament.
