The Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) is making pivotal advances towards a more inclusive and secure environment for all players and staff within the sport. As a leader in global rugby initiatives, FRU is setting a benchmark for creating safer spaces, prioritizing both employee and player welfare.

During a recent board meeting, board members were educated on the essential policies surrounding Workplace Harassment, Gender-Based Violence, and Safeguarding. This training is part of a broader initiative aimed at fostering an environment free of discrimination and harassment within the sport. Key staff members have also participated in intensive training sessions to ensure they are equipped to implement these policies effectively.

Originally adopted last year, these crucial policies were formally introduced to the staff and management at Rugby House last week, marking a significant step in fostering a culture of safety and respect throughout the organization. The FRU is committed to ensuring that these initiatives are felt at all levels, extending their positive impact down to grassroots rugby, which is vital for the sport’s growth and inclusivity.

With the leadership of experts like Tevita Seruilumi and insightful consultant Tessa Walsh, along with Tirahni Uluinakauvadra, the Rugby Participation and Pathways Programs Manager for the Oceania Region, the FRU is well-positioned to create a supportive environment for every participant in the game. This commitment reflects a progressive approach towards inclusivity and safeguarding in rugby, showing that the sport can evolve to meet the higher standards of society and enhance the experience for all involved.
