FIJI Rugby is taking vital steps towards creating a safer and more inclusive environment for players and staff within its community. The Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) recently welcomed its board members into the new Workplace Harassment, Gender-Based Violence (GBV), and Safeguarding Policies during a board meeting, marking a significant advancement in global standards for the sport.

This initiative follows the formal adoption of the mentioned policies last year, and the newly established framework was presented to staff and management at Rugby House. Extensive training sessions have been conducted for dedicated staff members to ensure effective implementation of these crucial measures. The FRU aspires for these protective initiatives to extend from administrative levels all the way down to grassroots rugby in Fiji.

The Union stated, “Our goal is to extend these initiatives down to the grassroots level, ensuring that every player and member of the rugby community benefits from a safer environment,” emphasizing its commitment to fostering inclusivity and safety.

The development of these policies has been overseen by a team of specialists, including Tevita Seruilumi, consultant Tessa Walsh, and Tirahni Uluinakauvadra, the Rugby Participation & Pathways Programs Manager for the Oceania Region. This initiative is framed as transcending the sport, deeply rooted in values of respect, equality, and safety.

By establishing structured national pathways, Fiji Rugby is not just enhancing the sport’s atmosphere but also building a future that ensures safety and accessibility for all participants. This forward-thinking vision reflects a progressive approach, prioritizing the well-being of the rugby community and setting a positive precedent for the sports sector worldwide.
