Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Kasiano Vusonilawe, has urged frontline supervisors to prioritize effective policing and leadership over concerns about promotions and ranks. His comments were made during the Frontline Non-Commissioned Officers (NCO) Empowerment Workshop held at the Fiji Police Academy.

Vusonilawe addressed the 21 attending officers, emphasizing their crucial roles as frontline supervisors. He stated, “You are the supervisors of those doing the work on the front line. You should know your roles and responsibilities.” He highlighted the necessity for the police service to elevate its standards and encouraged supervisors to focus on delivering quality service.

In his address, ACP Vusonilawe fervently discouraged the trend of pursuing promotions without merit. He emphasized the importance of mastering the fundamentals of their roles, stating, “Enough doing the work for the sake of just doing it. Enough of running after the ranks and promotions. Do your work the right way first and promotions will find their way to you.”

The Assistant Commissioner also pointed out the significant correlation between the quality of leadership at the supervisory level and the service delivered to the community. He urged the officers to provide exemplary leadership to their teams to ensure quality service to the public.

The workshop, which aims to strengthen the leadership and supervisory skills of non-commissioned officers, will conclude on Wednesday. This initiative reflects the Fiji Police’s commitment to improving service quality and reinforcing the vital role of leadership in law enforcement. Such proactive measures signal a promising direction for enhancing community trust and safety through dedicated and capable police leadership.
