Dr. Raijeli Taga, the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, made a noteworthy visit to the Fiji High Commission in Wellington, New Zealand, recently. Her visit aimed to bolster bilateral relations between Fiji and New Zealand, and she was warmly greeted by Fiji’s High Commissioner to New Zealand, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola, along with the High Commission staff.

During her discussions, Dr. Taga emphasized the importance of enhancing service delivery for Fijians in New Zealand, ensuring better support for the diaspora community. The High Commission provided insights into various development support programs, which include collaborative efforts in defense and policing, the Labor Mobility Scheme, and various trade and investment initiatives. These programs are designed to promote sustainable relations and mutual benefits between the two countries.

Additionally, Dr. Taga assessed the operational requirements of Fiji’s mission properties in New Zealand. She toured the four mission locations and engaged in discussions with trade officers in Auckland to identify priority areas and ongoing projects. A critical part of these conversations involved the plans to establish a Fiji Consulate Office in Auckland. This new consulate is set to become a centralized hub for trade assistance and consular services, marking a significant advancement in support for the Fijian community in New Zealand.

The Fiji High Commission reiterated its commitment to improving service delivery and representing the interests of the Fiji Government. By strengthening connections within the community and offering consular support to the over 100,000 Fijians living in New Zealand, these initiatives highlight a dedication to enhancing the welfare and engagement of the Fijian diaspora in Aotearoa.

This visit represents a pivotal step towards increasing cooperation and support for Fijians abroad, underscoring the vital role of international relations in promoting community well-being and fostering a sense of belonging among expatriates.
