Heavy rain and strong wind warnings have been enacted for various regions across Fiji as the country continues to experience the effects of the slow-moving weather system linked to Tropical Cyclone Urmil. The Fiji Meteorological Service has issued alerts, signaling significant rainfall for the Western Division as well as the Yasawa and Mamanuca group of islands, Kadavu, and smaller nearby islands. Additionally, heavy rain warnings are also in effect for Macuata and northern Bua provinces.

The weather service has also informed residents of a strong wind warning affecting land areas in the Western Division, Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, and Kadavu, while alerts have been issued for the Lau and Lomaiviti groups. A trough of low pressure, which brings cloud and showers, remains stationary over the region.

Tropical Cyclone Urmil, currently categorized as a Category 1 storm and situated over Vanuatu, is anticipated to travel southeast, passing southwest of Fiji. This trajectory is expected to create a robust and moist north-westerly wind flow, resulting in active rain bands that will begin impacting the area later today.

In the Western Division, as well as the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups and Kadavu, heavy and frequent rainfall along with thunderstorms is forecasted. Winds are expected to intensify, reaching speeds of 45 kilometers per hour, with gusts potentially soaring up to 60 kilometers per hour. Residents and visitors are advised to stay alert and take all necessary precautions to ensure safety during this weather event.

This weather pattern serves as a reminder of the power of nature and the importance of community preparedness. By staying informed and following safety guidelines, the public can collectively navigate these challenging weather conditions.
