The 2025 Fiji Men’s and Mixed Netball competition took place at the National Netball Centre in Laucala over the weekend, presenting an exciting showcase of talent and competitiveness. Myron Williams, the president of the association, emphasized that this year’s competition stood out for its unparalleled level of intensity and skill across all teams.

Williams highlighted the distinctive characteristics of men’s and mixed netball, noting that it is a more physical and demanding form compared to traditional women’s netball. He remarked, “This year’s competition marked a clear shift in the competitive landscape of the sport. The intensity lifted, the skills sharpened, and the competition tightened across all five grades.” He compared the toughness of men’s netball to that of rugby, underscoring its distinct style and approach.

In addition to thrilling matches, the event played a vital role in promoting HIV awareness, with Williams thanking the Ministry of Health and Medical Services HIV Unit for their collaboration in fostering education and testing initiatives through sport.

On the competitive front, the Lautoka Maroons claimed victory in the Masters (40+) category, defeating the Tailevu Doves 28-15. The Open Mix division saw Nasinu assert their dominance by triumphing over the Suva Swifts 37-25, while the under-19 Men’s grade concluded with a dramatic finish as Nadi edged past defending champions Suva 31-30. Suva managed to capture the U23 Men’s title with a close victory against Nasinu, scoring 27-23. Additionally, the Suva Warriors retained the prestigious Tabete Shield by overcoming Nasinu 29-24 in the Open Men’s division.

This competition not only highlighted exceptional athleticism but also served as an important avenue for community engagement and health education. The strong turnout and enthusiasm displayed at the event indicate a growing interest in netball within Fiji, marking a promising future for the sport.
