A 56-year-old man is set to appear before the Suva Magistrates Court today following his arrest in connection with a social media incident. The police allege that he circulated a digitally manipulated newspaper article in May that contained false and misleading information about two well-known individuals. This situation has drawn attention due to its implications regarding the spread of misinformation online.

The investigation was conducted under Section 24 of the Online Safety Act 2018, which aims to prevent harm caused through electronic communications. The suspect was apprehended in Nadi and charged with one count of Causing Harm by Posting Electronic Communication, as outlined in Sections 24(1)(a), (b), and (c) of the Act.
