The Land Transport Authority of Fiji has introduced a new Payment Plan initiative, effective from the 23rd of this month, aimed at assisting customers in settling long-standing traffic infringement fines. This initiative reflects the LTA’s commitment to easing the financial burden on motorists who have struggled to pay their accumulated penalties.

According to LTA Chief Executive Officer Irimaia Rokosawa, the newly implemented plan allows eligible drivers to address overdue fines through a structured repayment arrangement. This approach not only provides a manageable pathway to compliance but also helps alleviate the financial pressures many customers face. Rokosawa noted that there has been a substantial number of unpaid Traffic Infringement Notices (TINs), particularly those issued between 2017 and 2022, which have contributed to administrative delays and hindered the Authority’s ability to enforce compliance effectively.

The new Payment Plan is tailored for customers with long-outstanding fines from the specified years. To qualify, motorists must first settle all fines issued from January 1, 2023, onward. The policy specifically covers TINs outlined in the signed agreement, and any fines outside this list must be cleared separately despite their issuance date. Furthermore, motorists should be aware that failing to adhere to the scheduled payments could lead to the cancellation of the agreement.

By launching this initiative, the Authority aims to reduce the backlog of unrecovered penalties, streamline administrative processes, and enhance revenue collection for the government. The funds recovered through the Payment Plan will be pivotal in supporting road safety programs, enforcement operations, and transportation infrastructure that benefits the entire community.

Rokosawa encouraged eligible individuals to proactively engage with the LTA for guidance on the application process and to commit to their repayment schedules, emphasizing that this policy is designed to ensure transparency and fairness in enforcement. The initiative is expected to significantly improve the efficiency of the Authority’s operations, allowing for better resource allocation and quicker service delivery. With these changes, there is hope for improved compliance and a healthier relationship between the LTA and the motorist community.
