The Judicial Services Commission (JSC) has chosen to remain silent regarding the appointment of Lavi Rokoika as the Acting Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption. This decision comes as the legality of Rokoika’s appointment is presently under judicial review in the High Court. Tomasi Bainivalu, the Commission Secretary, expressed concerns that discussing the situation publicly could interfere with the judicial process and undermine the integrity of the ongoing proceedings.
Bainivalu made it clear that the JSC will refrain from engaging in media discussions related to the legal challenges. He emphasized the Commission’s constitutional responsibility to recommend appointments to the President in consultation with the Attorney-General, adhering to legal protocols. Furthermore, he stated that public trust in the judiciary is reinforced when courts are allowed to make their decisions independently, free from external pressures.
