Officers from the Fiji Navy, Water Police Unit, and the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service celebrated their graduation last week after completing the Boat Master Licence (BML) and Restricted Master Engineer Licence Class 6 (RMEL6) training programs. This significant event underscores the importance of enhancing maritime security in Fiji, an area identified as a national priority.
During the graduation ceremony at the Stanley Brown Naval Base in Lami, Minister for Defence Pio Tikoduadua served as the chief guest. He expressed gratitude for the continued support from the UK International Development and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Tikoduadua emphasized that such collaborations are vital for strengthening Fiji’s maritime security capabilities.
Lieutenant Colonel Sophie Waters from the United Kingdom was also present at the ceremony and emphasized the importance of international cooperation in enhancing maritime operations. This training initiative not only prepares officers to perform their duties more effectively but also reinforces the collective commitment to maritime safety and security in the region.
The successful completion of this training represents a positive step forward in ensuring that Fiji’s maritime forces are well-equipped to address the challenges they may face at sea. The collaboration with international partners highlights a proactive approach towards maintaining peace and stability in Fiji’s waters.
