Fijians will face an increase in the price of cooking gas starting tomorrow, as announced by the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC). The updated regulated prices for fuel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) products will take effect immediately.

Under the new pricing, a 4.5 kg cylinder of cooking gas is set to cost $13.56, reflecting an increase of 23 cents. The 12 kg cylinder will be priced at $36.17, which is a substantial rise of 62 cents. Additionally, bulk gas will be available for $2.79 per liter, while the cost for auto gas will increase by four cents to $1.92.

In a contrasting move, fuel prices are slated to decrease starting tomorrow. Motor spirit will drop by six cents to a new price of $2.55 per liter. The premix price will fall to $2.39, while kerosene will see a price reduction of 12 cents, resulting in a new cost of $1.74 per liter. Diesel will also see a decrease, retailing at $2.18.

The FCCC has emphasized its commitment to monitoring compliance with these new prices. Their inspectors will conduct thorough checks at wholesale and retail outlets, as well as service stations, to ensure that the authorized prices for petroleum and LPG products are adhered to. These prices reflect the maximum allowable charges, allowing wholesalers and retailers the option to sell below these rates.

The proactive approach taken by the FCCC to inspect compliance over the coming weeks is expected to foster a fair pricing environment for consumers. This development underlines the commission’s ongoing efforts to regulate the market and protect the interests of Fijian consumers.
