The Government of Fiji is intensifying its initiatives to ensure that essential services reach remote communities, with a recent outreach effort taking place in Matacawalevu, Nacula, located in the Yasawa Islands. This pivotal program was spearheaded by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and it included collaboration from multiple agencies such as the Ministry of Employment Productivity and Workplace Relations, the Ministry of Commerce and Business Development, the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service, the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, and the Fiji Police Force.
During this community-focused initiative, residents had the opportunity to access a range of vital services directly in their village. These included youth group registrations, the issuance of new Joint ID Cards, cooperative business registrations, enrolments at the National Employment Centre, as well as HIV testing and counseling services.
Jese Saukuru, the Minister for Youth and Sports, emphasized the importance of making services accessible to maritime communities. He highlighted that geographical barriers should not hinder individuals from accessing governmental support and opportunities.
Saukuru also expressed concern regarding the rising number of HIV cases among young people and the increasing prevalence of drug use in rural villages. He called for heightened awareness and collaborative efforts to safeguard the health and wellbeing of youth and young adults.
This outreach effort not only signifies the government’s commitment to equitable service delivery but also seeks to foster healthier and more resilient communities throughout Fiji.
