A heavy rain alert is currently in effect for the Fiji Group as an active trough of low pressure affects the region. The Fiji Meteorological Service has warned that intense rainfall and thunderstorms are likely to continue through tomorrow.

A flash flood warning has been issued for the entirety of Viti Levu, with a flash flood alert also active for Vanua Levu. The Nadi Weather Office is urging residents to exercise caution as sudden flooding could occur in low-lying areas due to heavy downpours.

Specific flood warnings are in place for regions near the Nakauvadra River in Rakiraki, as well as the Naseyani and Yaqara Rivers, the Tavua River, and the floodplains of the Ba River. Alerts extend to low-lying zones adjacent to the Nadi, Nawaka, and Tuva rivers in Nadroga.

Forecasters predict occasional heavy rain is likely in most areas, along with potential thunderstorms. Although the weather is expected to improve later tomorrow, moderate to fresh northwest winds could bring gusty conditions. Sea conditions are also anticipated to remain rough.

Looking ahead to tomorrow, sporadic showers are expected across Fiji, with isolated thunderstorms likely in the afternoons or evenings on both Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. As the day unfolds, winds are projected to shift to a northeasterly direction, with sea conditions becoming moderate.

In addition, Rotuma remains under a heavy rain alert, with forecasts predicting intermittent heavy rainfall and isolated thunderstorms accompanied by moderate to fresh winds and moderately rough seas.

This weather event underscores nature’s power and highlights the importance of community preparedness during environmental challenges. Residents are encouraged to stay informed and take appropriate precautions to ensure safety amid the impending weather conditions.
