Fiji and Japan have made notable strides in enhancing their bilateral relations over the past year, underscored by high-level exchanges and an increase in collaboration across vital development sectors. Japanese Ambassador to Fiji, Hiroshi Tajima, highlighted that Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka’s recent visit to Japan marked a significant milestone in the relationship between the two nations.
During this historic trip, Prime Minister Rabuka engaged in discussions with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, leading to the signing of the Japan–Fiji Lomavata Kizuna Partnership. This agreement is designed to bolster strategic cooperation between Fiji and Japan.
Ambassador Tajima emphasized the deep friendship shared between the two countries, linked by the vast Pacific Ocean and common values. He noted Japan’s continued support across various domains, including climate action, disaster resilience, infrastructure development, renewable energy, public health, education, and maritime initiatives. He reiterated Japan’s dedication to enhancing the bonds of Kizuna, a term that embodies friendship.
Kiti Temo, Chief of Protocol from Fiji’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, conveyed warm congratulations from Fiji’s leaders and citizens to His Majesty Emperor Naruhito of Japan. She reinforced that the partnership between the two nations is robust, built on mutual respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and adherence to the principles upheld by the United Nations.
Furthermore, Temo recognized the essential contributions made by the Japan International Cooperation Agency in various fields, such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, climate resilience, and community-oriented projects. This ongoing collaboration serves as a testament to the enduring friendship and commitment between Fiji and Japan, paving the way for a hopeful and prosperous future together.
