Fiji Airports has unveiled an ambitious redevelopment plan for Nadi International Airport, backed by a remarkable $2.3 billion investment as part of its updated 25-year master plan. Chief Executive Mesake Nawari remarked that this initiative represents a significant expansion of the country’s aviation infrastructure.

The redevelopment process has already begun with initial works at the terminal, and larger construction phases are projected to roll out in the coming years. Nawari pointed out that the upcoming decade will prioritize addressing projects that had been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, while also implementing necessary upgrades to meet current and future demands on the airport’s facilities.

Nawari highlighted the importance of identifying potential challenges early in the project, noting that factors such as weather conditions, contractor capacity, and resource availability may pose risks. He emphasized the need for effective risk management and close collaboration with contractors to stick to timelines, as any delays could lead to increased costs.

Further supporting the initiative, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Viliame Gavoka noted that visible improvements are already taking place at both Nadi and Nausori airports. During a recent visit, he praised the well-maintained aerodromes and proactive upgrades under way.

Gavoka expressed optimism about the future of Fiji’s civil aviation sector, crediting its positive trajectory to robust leadership and a collaborative effort among regulators, operators, and Fiji Airports. This redevelopment not only signifies a pivotal moment for enhancing Fiji’s aviation capacity but also represents a hopeful step towards ensuring the sector’s continued success and growth.
