Patel claimed these adjustments were made to enhance cost efficiency, stating, “Government agencies, including the FBI, routinely evaluate, replace, and update vehicle fleets based on usage, security needs, or budgetary decisions.”
However, critics have raised concerns about Patel’s personal use of taxpayer resources. Notably, in late October, he was reported to have utilized a $60 million government jet for a personal trip to attend a wrestling event with his girlfriend, country singer Alexis Wilkins, before returning to her home in Nashville. Additionally, Patel assigned a personal SWAT team for Wilkins’ protection, which has added to the controversy surrounding his expenditures.
Patel has defended his actions, labeling Wilkins as a “rock-solid conservative and a country music sensation.” He even made a proposal for the FBI to acquire a new jet, which would have cost between $90 million and $115 million, to facilitate future trips with her. This request was ultimately rejected, highlighting ongoing concerns about the appropriateness of his spending.
While Patel insists on the financial prudence of the FBI’s operational choices, criticisms regarding personal benefits drawn from taxpayer funds continue to mount. The situation underscores the need for greater transparency and accountability within government spending practices.
