Former Michigan Wolverines head football coach Sherrone Moore is currently fighting to have legal charges against him dismissed. Moore appeared in a court session on January 22, 2026, accompanied by his wife and legal counsel, Ellen K. Michaels. The proceedings were briefly adjourned after Moore’s defense requested additional time to review statements made by the complaining witness, who is an employee in the university’s athletic department.

According to attorneys, Moore is maintaining his innocence and has filed a motion to dismiss the case. His defense team argues that the arrest warrant was founded on questionable and misleading information. The allegations stem from Moore’s purported inappropriate romantic relationship with the athletic department employee, which led to his termination from the university on December 10, 2025.

Moore faces multiple charges, including third-degree home invasion, stalking, and breaking and entering. The situation became dire following a 911 call reporting an apparent domestic disturbance at the woman’s residence, which resulted in Moore’s arrest. He was subsequently placed in protective custody after mental health professionals determined he posed a potential risk to himself following the end of their relationship, just two days before his firing.

Following the court hearing, his attorney expressed confidence that their case would demonstrate Moore’s innocence, asserting the need for a “Franks hearing” to address the allegedly misleading basis for the arrest warrant. Prosecutors are required to respond to the defendant’s motions by February 2, with a subsequent hearing regarding the motion to dismiss scheduled for February 17.

This legal battle not only highlights the serious nature of the accusations but also raises questions about the implications for the Michigan football program moving forward. As the case develops, the university and its stakeholders will be watching closely to gauge the impact on team morale and the program’s future.
