Joel Embiid will not participate in the Philadelphia 76ers’ first game following the All-Star break, which is set for Thursday night against the Atlanta Hawks. A team official confirmed that the star center is currently involved in a management program for a right knee injury but has reported new soreness in his right shin. After consulting with medical professionals, Embiid has been undergoing daily treatment while also focusing on on-court work and strength conditioning.
Despite his absence from the matchup against Atlanta, he is expected to be re-evaluated as the team prepares for a back-to-back set of games over the weekend. This comes after Embiid had already missed the Sixers’ last two games before the All-Star break due to knee issues, specifically following soreness that arose in a game against the Suns earlier this month.
Sixers head coach Nick Nurse noted that Embiid participated in a portion of Wednesday’s practice and appeared to be doing well, which is encouraging for both the player and the team. The seven-time All-Star has had a significant impact already this season, playing 31 games so far—12 more than he did in the previous season—averaging 26.6 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 3.9 assists.
The rest of the Sixers’ injury report remains clear. Veteran guard Cameron Payne has recently arrived from Serbia and is working to acclimate to his new team. Additionally, suspended player Paul George has been active in practice, as Nurse aims to keep him involved and in good shape for the final stretch of the season.
“Paul’s just in every practice and working,” Nurse commented. “I want to keep him conditioned and sharp, so he’s ready to contribute when the time comes.”
The Sixers can remain hopeful as they navigate this injury situation, especially with the prospect of Embiid returning soon and the ongoing efforts to integrate George back into the lineup. As the season progresses, the team’s depth and resilience will be crucial in their pursuit of success.
