The upcoming 2025 Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards (FETA) is set to embrace a more inclusive approach, with a strong emphasis on recognizing Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) within the tourism sector. Debra Sadranu, chairperson of the FETA board of trustees, shared insights during an exclusive interview with The Fiji Times, emphasizing the importance of ensuring that the awards reflect the full diversity of the industry, beyond just large resorts.

Ms. Sadranu highlighted the expansion of award categories, now totaling 23, including two special trustee awards. This decision aims to encompass all facets of the tourism landscape, extending opportunities for recognition to those involved in inbound tourism services, experiences, activities, and accommodations.

As the first female chair, Ms. Sadranu stressed that leadership in tourism is driven by passion and expertise rather than gender. “It’s about passion, knowledge of the industry, and identifying ways to improve or expand every year,” she noted. She believes that progress is vital and highlights the need for continual evolution within the awards to include deserving individuals and categories.

The theme for the 2025 awards, “Echoes of Fiji,” aims to honor the resonating impact of success within the tourism sector. Ms. Sadranu explained that this theme encapsulates the essential sounds of tourism and how moments of joy create lasting memories.

Scheduled to take place on February 28 at the new Convention Centre at Crowne Plaza Fiji Nadi Bay Resort and Spa, this year’s gala promises to bring a fresh experience to attendees. “We’re excited to bring something new to the awards this year, and I think having a new venue helps add to that experience,” she expressed.

The event will not only showcase remarkable hospitality talent but also celebrate the spirit of excellence that embodies Fijian culture, marking a promising and vibrant future for FETA and the tourism industry as a whole.
