The Philadelphia Eagles continue to face challenges as their normally potent offense struggles, particularly with their run game, which has become the team’s top concern for the 2025 season. Despite displaying firepower in previous seasons, the Eagles’ rushing game has quietly faltered, prompting frustrations within the organization. Many insiders believe that offensive coordinator Jeff Stoutland is bearing much of the blame for this decline. As a consequence, head coach Nick Sirianni is contemplating significant changes, potentially affecting Stoutland’s role.

Jeff McLane shared insights on his podcast regarding the shifts in Stoutland’s responsibilities. He noted that Stoutland, who had previously been charged with coordinating the run game, may have seen that role diminished last season, leading to uncertainty about his future. McLane speculated that the coaching staff might be considering reducing Stoutland’s responsibilities, allowing him to focus solely on offensive line coaching to better enhance the players’ performance.

The stats tell a stark story. Last season, the Eagles boasted an impressive total of 3,048 rushing yards, but this figure has plummeted to just 1,908 yards this year. Their attempts have also dropped from 621 to 459, and the average yards per carry has gone from 4.91 to 4.16. Notably, explosive runs of 10 yards or more have decreased by over 30%, and rushing first downs fell sharply from 170 to 114. Despite retaining a similar roster, the decline in performance is striking, illustrated by advanced metrics revealing a negative shift in expected points added on runs.

In light of these issues, Sirianni has made updates regarding the offensive coordinator search, having parted ways with Kevin Patullo after the Eagles’ playoff exit. An insider has indicated that the team is not hurrying the search, thanks in part to Sirianni’s capability to step in and manage the offensive calls if necessary. The organization recently brought back Jim Bob Cooter for a second interview, marking him as the second candidate to receive a follow-up during this selection process. Cooter has an established relationship with Sirianni dating back to their time with the Chiefs, and has acquired a commendable resume working across various teams in the league.

As fans and analysts watch the situation unfold, the Eagles remain hopeful that the right choice will bring renewed vigor to their offensive strategy and restore their capacity to dominate on the field. The emphasis on addressing these issues indicates a proactive approach that could pave the way for improvement in the near future.
