GLEN Jackson, head coach of the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua, described the process of selecting the match-day 23 for this week’s inaugural game in the 2026 Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific competition as the most challenging decision he has faced with his coaching staff. The team is set to compete against Moana Pasifika this Saturday.

Jackson shared that the enthusiasm from all players eager to participate made the selection process particularly difficult, especially when it came to informing those who would not be taking the field. “It’s the hardest that I’ve ever had to do,” he stated at a press conference in Nadi. While he recognized the positive aspect of having a full roster, he also acknowledged the pressure on the selected players.

Excitingly, new team members Issak Fines-Leleiwasa, Virimi Vakatawa, Manasa Mataele, and co-captain Temo Mayanavanua are set to make their debuts in this match. Jackson emphasized that every player will have the opportunity to showcase their skills throughout the season, assuring them, “We’ve talked to all the players around their understanding of how this is an 18-game season; opportunities will come for everyone.”

This announcement follows several months of intensive off-season and pre-season training, alongside two competitive trial matches held in Mount Maunganui, New Zealand, and Lautoka. As the Fijian Drua looks forward to a thrilling and competitive season, Jackson is excited to see what his players can accomplish in front of what they proudly refer to as “the world’s best fans.”

The match against Moana Pasifika will take place at Churchill Park, kicking off at 3:30 PM, marking an exhilarating start to their season.
