Tuskegee basketball head coach Benjy Taylor has enlisted the services of prominent civil rights attorney Harry Daniels following an incident during and after a game against Morehouse College in Atlanta on Saturday evening. Following Tuskegee’s loss, video footage surfaced showing Taylor engaging with law enforcement moments before he was handcuffed and escorted off the court.

According to a press release from the Harry M. Daniels Law Office, Taylor’s handcuffing was described as “needless.” The statement indicated that Taylor had raised concerns about aggressive behavior exhibited by members of the Morehouse football team toward Tuskegee players and their families on the court. The release emphasized that such interaction is prohibited by conference security protocols, and when Coach Taylor requested law enforcement to intervene, one officer opted to handcuff him instead.

Harry Daniels criticized the actions of law enforcement, stating, “It would be bad for a police officer to treat anyone like this. But to do it to a man like Coach Taylor, a highly respected professional and role model, is absolutely disgusting and they need to be held accountable.” Notably, no criminal charges were filed against Taylor.

In addition to Daniels, Taylor has also retained attorneys Gregory Reynald Williams and Gerald Griggs, as they explore potential legal avenues, including a possible civil lawsuit. This case highlights the importance of adherence to safety protocols in sporting events and raises questions about the treatment of individuals in positions of authority.

As Taylor and his legal team continue to seek justice, the situation serves as a reminder of the delicate balance between safety and proper conduct in sports, reinforcing the idea that accountability is crucial for all parties involved.
