As heavy snow is anticipated in the coming days, various cities and counties in Greater Cincinnati are starting to declare snow emergencies. The National Weather Service in Wilmington has issued a winter weather advisory, forecasting 2 to 3 inches of snow in Cincinnati from the night of December 11 into the morning of December 12. Greater snowfall is expected in the southwest regions, particularly Boone County, Kentucky, and Dearborn County, Indiana, while areas northeast, such as Dayton, are likely to see lighter accumulations of 1 to 2 inches.

In addition to the current advisory, a winter storm watch will be in effect from 10 a.m. on December 13 until 7 a.m. on December 14, projecting total accumulations of 3 to 6 inches during that period.

Currently, there are no snow emergencies declared in Southwest Ohio. However, in Northern Kentucky, and specifically in Dearborn County, a “Yellow” travel advisory has been issued. This is the lowest level of travel advisory, indicating that routine activities may be limited due to hazardous conditions, and individuals are urged to exercise caution or avoid travel if possible.

Residents and motorists are reminded of the varying levels of snow emergencies:

– **Level 1** indicates that roadways are hazardous due to accumulated snow and ice, urging drivers to exercise caution. While no roads are officially closed, unnecessary travel is discouraged.
– **Level 2** escalates the warning, advising that roads may be very icy and only essential travel is recommended. Employees should confirm with employers whether to attend work.
– **Level 3** signifies extreme conditions, where all roadways are closed to non-emergency personnel.

As the winter weather approaches, city officials and emergency responders stress the importance of safety and preparedness, advising residents to stay informed about local conditions as they evolve. With appropriate measures and community awareness, everyone can navigate the challenges posed by winter weather safely.
