The Boston Celtics were active on the NBA trade front, making several transactions as the trade deadline approached. While they didn’t execute any blockbuster deals on Thursday, they continued shaping their roster after a significant move earlier in the week.
On Tuesday, the Celtics secured center Nikola Vucevic and a second-round pick from the Chicago Bulls, in a trade that sent guard Anfernee Simons and another second-round pick to Chicago. Following that, the Celtics sent Chris Boucher to the Utah Jazz, Josh Minott to the Brooklyn Nets, and Xavier Tillman to the Charlotte Hornets, executing a trio of smaller deals before the 3 p.m. ET deadline.
As a result of these trades, the Celtics have positioned themselves under the luxury tax threshold while also opening up two roster spots. One of these spots may now allow them to pursue a player available in the buyout market, potentially enhancing their capabilities for the remainder of the season.
The team’s strategic movements could set them up for a strong playoff push, as they have been building a competitive roster over the past few weeks. With Vucevic’s addition and the continued flexibility to make further enhancements, the Celtics maintain a positive trajectory as they look to contend for a championship this season.
