As the Texas A&M Aggies are set to face the Miami Hurricanes tomorrow at Kyle Field, the performance of both teams’ defenses is expected to play a critical role in determining the outcome. Josh Pate emphasized during his appearance on ‘Get Up’ that Miami’s chances for success hinge not just on quarterback Carson Beck, but rather on a collective effort from the whole offense, particularly the running game and the offensive line.
Pate stressed the importance of the Hurricanes’ offensive strategy, suggesting that relying solely on Beck would be unfair given the challenging atmosphere of a road game. He highlighted that Miami head coach Mario Cristobal has built a formidable offensive line and that this matchup is an opportunity to showcase their strength. Pate said, “This is when you impose your will and take away their ability to rush the passer by making it consistently 3rd & 2, 3rd & 1.”
Agreeing with Pate, analyst Jordan Rodgers noted that success on early downs will be crucial for Miami. He pointed out that Texas A&M has struggled to stop the run, giving up nine rushes of ten or more yards in their recent game against Texas. For Rodgers, Miami’s ability to establish a strong ground game would reduce the pressure on Beck and prevent the Aggies’ top-rated third-down defense from capitalizing on passing situations.
In his inaugural season at Miami, Beck has shown considerable improvement, boasting a completion rate of 74.7% and averaging 256 passing yards per game, with a total of 25 touchdowns against 10 interceptions. Nevertheless, both analysts believe that relying solely on Beck for victory would be misguided.
The burden of performance will fall heavily on Miami’s offensive line, which faces a challenging task against the Aggies’ defensive front. Additionally, running backs Mark Fletcher and CharMar Brown will play significant roles, especially during early downs, to provide a balanced approach on offense.
While Beck has the potential to shine in tomorrow’s game, Pate and Rodgers have indicated that a well-rounded offensive strategy will be key for Miami to advance in the College Football Playoff. Emphasizing team effort over individual performances might just pave the way for a compelling contest in Aggieland.
