Cameron Diaz is making a triumphant return to the romantic comedy genre more than ten years after her last starring role in 2014’s “The Other Woman.” The Golden Globe nominee has signed on for a leading part in an untitled fake marriage comedy produced by Amazon MGM Studios, directed by Emmy Award winner Stephen Merchant, who is also set to star in the film.

The project, co-written by Merchant and John Butler, revolves around a workaholic Brit portrayed by Merchant, who is working at a prestigious New York hotel. In a bid to maintain appearances, he finds himself in need of a wife. This leads him to strike a deal with a struggling stand-up comic, played by Diaz, who seeks a marriage of convenience for health insurance. What starts as a simple transaction unexpectedly blossoms into a romance.

This film marks Diaz’s latest collaboration with Seth Rogen, with whom she previously starred in the 2011 superhero film “The Green Hornet.” Following her emergence in last year’s action film “Back in Action,” Diaz is also involved in another action-comedy project for Netflix titled “Bad Day,” currently in production. Additionally, fans can look forward to her reprising the beloved role of Fiona in the eagerly awaited “Shrek 5,” scheduled for release on June 30, 2027. Furthermore, Diaz is set to star alongside Keanu Reeves and Jonah Hill in the upcoming Apple black comedy film “Outcome,” directed by Hill.

With her exciting projects on the horizon, Diaz’s return signals not only her enduring appeal but also a revitalization of the romantic comedy genre, promising fresh and entertaining narratives for audiences.
