Cam Thomas has officially joined the Milwaukee Bucks after being released by the Brooklyn Nets, the team announced on Sunday. The 24-year-old guard, who was selected by the Nets with the 27th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft from LSU, has spent his entire professional career with Brooklyn.

This season, Thomas played in 24 games, averaging 15.6 points, 3.1 assists, and 1.8 rebounds over 24.3 minutes per game. Despite a left hamstring strain that sidelined him for approximately seven weeks, he made a return to the court on December 27. Unfortunately, hamstring injuries also hindered his playing time last year, where he managed to feature in 25 games and averaged an impressive 24 points per game when he was fit. Over the course of the 2023-24 season, he played 66 games and averaged 22.5 points.

Currently, Thomas is encountering difficulties with his shooting, recording a career-low overall shooting percentage of 39.9%, along with only 32.5% from beyond the arc. Historically, his career averages are more promising, with 43.5% shooting overall and 34.3% from three-point territory, accumulated over 239 career appearances, which includes 88 starts.

The Bucks’ acquisition of Thomas could offer him a fresh start and the opportunity to regain his scoring touch, especially as the team integrates him into their system moving forward. This move reflects Milwaukee’s ongoing commitment to enhance their roster and deepen their bench as they prepare for the challenges ahead in the season.
