The Wooden Award, recognized as the most prestigious individual honor in college basketball, has released its midseason top 25 watchlist for the 2025-26 season. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the award, organized by the Los Angeles Athletic Club, which celebrates excellence in the sport.
Among the notable players featured on the list is North Carolina freshman Caleb Wilson. He has made a remarkable impact this season, leading the Tar Heels with an impressive 19.3 points per game and 10.9 rebounds per game, both of which are on track to set program records for freshmen. Wilson also holds the team’s highest numbers in offensive rebounds, steals, as well as both made and attempted free throws, and he leads in blocked shots. Notably, he is the first freshman in Carolina’s history to score 20 or more points in six consecutive games. His performance has placed him at the forefront in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), leading in rebounds and double-doubles with a total of 10. In fact, he ranks first in the nation among freshmen in both categories.
The midseason watchlist was compiled through a poll of national college basketball experts, highlighting a refined group of the nation’s standout performers. The selected athletes are considered frontrunners for the coveted Wooden Award All-American Team and the title of Most Outstanding Player. Although the 25 players named are prominent candidates, those not selected still have opportunities to make future lists and the national ballot, which will comprise 15 players who have shown exceptional abilities and contributions to their teams.
As the Wooden Award celebrates its landmark anniversary, special programming will commemorate its rich history throughout the season, culminating in a ceremony on April 10, 2026. This year’s festivities will include participation from the award’s first winner and ambassador, Marques Johnson.
