During His Majesty King Charles III’s service in Fiji, the British Army 7s rugby team faced off against a resilient Drua 7s side, resulting in a hard-fought 10-all draw in their opening pool match at the McDonald’s Coral Coast Fiji 7s tournament. The British players showcased toughness and determination, effectively meeting the physical challenge presented by the Drua, who had been ramping up their training in preparation for the upcoming 2026 Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific competition.
Warrant Officer Class 2 Vanavasa Bai, the team manager, emphasized the importance of executing their game plan as they had practiced in the lead-up to the tournament. “The main message is to play our structure according to the way that we’ve been training for the last few days and also for the last few months,” WO2 Bai stated, underscoring their commitment to their strategy.
The Coral Coast tournament, renowned for its stunning setting, has gained international recognition and attracts numerous overseas teams eager to experience the sport in such a picturesque location. “Where else can you play in such a beautiful arena? The Coral Coast is becoming more popular all over the world,” Bai commented. The growing international participation highlights the tournament’s appeal and showcases rugby’s unifying spirit on a global stage.
As the teams progress through the tournament, the anticipation continues to build, promising an exciting display of skill and athleticism.
