Federica Brignone has made a remarkable comeback after a serious injury, securing a gold medal in the Super-G event at the Milano Cortina Olympics. This victory not only highlights her prowess as one of the world’s top skiers but also showcases her enduring connection to athletics.
Before dominating the slopes, Brignone spent 12 years as a member of “Sandro Calvesi,” an athletics club based in Valle d’Aosta. Her early involvement in athletics shaped her sporting journey from 2000 to 2011, during which she competed in various youth categories across multiple disciplines.
The bond between Brignone and the club remains strong. In 2020, amid the pandemic, she organized an auction featuring twelve memorabilia items from her career, including sports gear she used for her victories. The proceeds were donated to Sandro Calvesi, underlining her commitment to supporting the organization that nurtured her talent.
Brignone once expressed her admiration for the club’s president, Lyana Calvesi, stating, “What Lyana Calvesi does for the kids and for athletics is truly what I consider the true essence of sport: passion, involvement, and fun without ulterior motives.”
With her latest triumph witnessed by Italian President Sergio Mattarella and an enthusiastic audience, Brignone now holds four Olympic medals, including her first golden one, following silver and bronze medals she earned at previous Games in Beijing and PyeongChang. This achievement marks a significant milestone in her career, inspiring many in both skiing and athletics while affirming her deep-rooted ties to her athletic beginnings.
