MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The community of Montgomery and church leaders across the Wiregrass region are mourning the tragic death of Pastor DaQuarius Green, who succumbed to injuries sustained in a shooting that occurred in Level Plains on December 23. The 31-year-old pastor was a well-respected figure known for his ministry and outreach within the Montgomery area, despite the incident taking place outside the city limits.

The Dale County Sheriff’s Office reported that the shooting was linked to a domestic incident within a residence located in the Freedom Heights neighborhood, just off Rucker Boulevard. Although the case is still under investigation, no charges have yet been filed.

Fellow pastor and friend, Minister DiVonta Palmer, expressed his sorrow and disbelief upon hearing the news of Green’s untimely death. The two often encountered one another at various church events and even in everyday settings, where they would engage in meaningful conversations about faith, family, and parenting.

Palmer characterized Green as a humble, honest individual devoted to his family and faith. He recalled a touching moment when Green made an unexpected visit to his church, a gesture Palmer cherished deeply. The bond they shared was evident, as Palmer conveyed how shocking and devastating it was to learn of Green’s passing.

Despite facing previous legal issues that were eventually dismissed, friends and community members remember Green for his unwavering dedication to his faith, family, and service to others. Palmer remarked, “He was human. A man of God. A father. A husband. He did not deserve to die.”

Green served as the pastor at Elba Zion Missionary Baptist Church, which publicly expressed gratitude for his leadership and service in a heartfelt statement. The church called upon the community to keep Green’s family and congregation in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. A prayer vigil was held in his honor on Sunday, as the community comes together to support one another through this tragedy.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Green’s shooting is ongoing. Authorities continue to seek answers and provide support to those affected by this incident.
