On the final day for submitting nomination papers for the forthcoming national elections, key political figures from the major parties made their declarations to the Election Commission. Among them were BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, and Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader.

Khaleda Zia is contesting for election in three constituencies: Bogura-7, Dinajpur-3, and Feni-1. In these districts, she will be up against candidates from Jamaat-e-Islami. Golam Rabbani will represent Jamaat in Bogura-7, Advocate Mainul Alam will contest in Dinajpur-3, and SM Kamal Uddin will run in Feni-1.

Tarique Rahman, the BNP Acting Chairman, has his sights set on the Dhaka-17 seat, where he will face Jamaat-e-Islami’s Dr. Khaliduzzaman, as well as Maulana Abidur Rahman Sohel in Bogura-6. Meanwhile, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is set to challenge Jamaat’s Delowar Hossain in Thakurgaon-1.

Jamaat-e-Islami’s Dr. Shafiqur Rahman will contest from Dhaka-15 and will face BNP’s Shafiqul Alam Khan Milton, a former acting general secretary of Jatiyatabadi Swecchasebak Dal. In Khulna-6, Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar will run against BNP’s SM Monirul Hasan Bappi.

Lastly, Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader will contest from Rangpur-3 with the plough symbol, competing against BNP’s Shamsuzzaman Samu and Jamaat’s Mahbubar Rahman Belal. Additionally, Nahid Islam, convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has filed a nomination paper in Dhaka-11 to contest against BNP’s Dr. M A Quyum.

The elections are shaping up to be highly competitive, with prominent leaders from the major parties ready to contest key seats, showcasing the vibrant political landscape leading up to the polls.
