Balata College in Tavua has achieved an impressive milestone by recording a 100 percent pass rate in the Year 13 Certificate Exam for 2025. This achievement places the school among several rural institutions commended by the Ministry of Education for their outstanding performance.

Principal Umendran Reddy expressed immense pride in the students’ accomplishments, highlighting this achievement as the result of a long-term goal established by the school’s academic team. “This is a testament to the hard work of the students, parents and guardians, and not forgetting the teachers who spent countless hours teaching, supervising, and studying with the students months before they sat for their exams,” noted Mr. Reddy. He emphasized the dedication of the teachers, who committed their afternoons to additional supervision and Saturday classes focusing on exam preparation.

The support from the Ministry of Education was also praised, with Mr. Reddy thanking them for their consistent assistance and encouragement to continuously enhance academic performances each year.

Vice Principal Sudeshna Kumar, responsible for the school’s academic programs, shared her aspiration to attain a 100 percent pass rate in external exams. “I’ve been with the school for the past eight years, and since I came, I have been wanting us to get to this level,” Mrs. Kumar stated. She noted that the school had come close with a 98 percent pass rate in 2020, but relentless efforts since then have finally led to this remarkable outcome. “We are very happy that we finally did it,” she added, encapsulating the collective joy of the school’s community.
