The Australian Fiji Rugby Union Under-20 team is set to make a notable appearance this week as they take the field in a curtain-raiser match for the first round of the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific series, featuring the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua against Moana Pasifika.

This event represents a significant opportunity for the team to showcase their skills and potential. Currently on a vital development tour in Fiji, the AFRU U20 squad aims to enhance the Under-20 rugby pathway in Fiji, ultimately preparing for future international competitions.

After their arrival in Nadi last Friday, the squad was warmly greeted by the community of Saunaka Village, where they engaged in local customs including a church service, highlighting the importance of cultural connections during their visit. Training sessions commenced shortly thereafter, which included a friendly match against the Fiji Rugby Union Under-20 team held at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.

The tour will culminate this Saturday when the Australian Fiji Rugby Union Under-20 team goes head-to-head with the Drua Development squad in Lautoka, setting the stage for the highly anticipated match between the Fijian Drua and Moana Pasifika that follows. The kick-off for the U20 match is scheduled for 12:30 pm, leading into the main event at 3:35 pm at Churchill Park.

The team expresses sincere gratitude to Electro Fire Technologies for supporting this tour, as well as to the Fiji Rugby Union, Saunaka Village, the Fijian Drua, and the larger community for their generosity and hospitality. This collaborative spirit reflects the strong ties between Australia and Fiji while underscoring the importance of developing young rugby talent. The event not only aims to enhance the skills of these young athletes but also strengthens the connections within the rugby community, promoting a hopeful future for their prospects in the sport.
