Austin’s recent weather trends revealed a dynamic temperature profile throughout 2025, making it one of the warmer years in the city’s history. Although it did not break records with consecutive 100-degree days during the summer, Austin experienced significant heat during spring, fall, and a surprising warmth even in December.

City officials have calculated average daily temperatures by combining high and low temperature readings and then averaging those results for the year. Notably, 2023 was recorded as the second hottest year at 72.2 degrees, while 2024 took the top spot with an average of 72.7 degrees. However, as of December 27, 2025, the city was on track to match 2023’s average at 72.2 degrees. Unfortunately, a cold front swept through Texas, dropping temperatures to near-freezing levels earlier this week, which shifted the annual average to approximately 71.9 degrees, ultimately placing 2025 in the fifth position for warmest years.

Throughout the year, notable temperature records included Austin experiencing its fifth-warmest months for March, April, and December, along with second-warmest records for October and November.

Entering the New Year, Austin will welcome 2026 with mostly sunny conditions and daytime temperatures around a pleasant 74 degrees. Forecasters expect the warming trend to elevate temperatures further, aided by a thermal ridge moving into the area. By Friday, temperatures could reach up to 86 degrees, potentially matching a daily heat record set in 2006, though a slight cooling trend is expected during the weekend as winds shift.

Looking forward, the National Weather Service’s Climate Prediction Center anticipates above-normal temperatures for Texas through January 2026, although Austin itself has a modest 37% chance of exceeding normal temperatures during this period. Nonetheless, the region can expect a return of milder weather influenced by patterns in the atmosphere, suggesting continued warmth in the coming weeks.

As Austin begins a new year, the weather patterns hint at the resilience and adaptability of the city’s climate, encouraging residents to enjoy the fluctuating warmth and mild winter conditions. Overall, 2025 stood out in the context of Austin’s weather history, and the upcoming forecast displays a hopeful outlook for warm, comfortable days ahead.
