Arlington is set to launch its winter Street Smart Campaign this month, aimed at enhancing the awareness of traffic laws among drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists. This regional initiative encourages vigilance during the colder months when road conditions can change drastically.

According to the Arlington County Police Department (ACPD), safety is a year-round priority, but winter weather necessitates heightened preparation and alertness among all road users. “While winter weather changes the road conditions, preparation, awareness and staying alert ensures safety for all road users, no matter the time of year,” the department emphasized in a press release.

Throughout the month-long campaign, ACPD will implement high-visibility traffic enforcement activities. Notable events include a session on the 1200 block of S. Hayes Street, close to the Pentagon City mall, scheduled for Thursday from 2:30-4 p.m., and another activation planned for Wednesday, January 21, at the intersection of Wilson Blvd and N. Lynn Street in Rosslyn from 7:30-9 a.m.

In support of this initiative, ACPD has issued important safety reminders for motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists to foster a safer environment for all road users. As these events unfold, they highlight the community’s commitment to road safety, particularly as the winter season presents unique challenges.
