British heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua was involved in a serious highway accident in Nigeria on Monday that resulted in fatalities, as confirmed by a regional official. The two-time world heavyweight champion had recently celebrated a victory over YouTube star Jake Paul with a knockout in Miami, just over a week ago.

Joshua was reportedly in a vehicle that collided with a truck on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, as detailed by Ogun Police representative Lanre Ogunlowo. While Ogunlowo could not provide specifics about the severity of Joshua’s injuries, Gbenga Omotoso, a Lagos state government representative, stated in a social media post that the incident resulted in multiple deaths.

Images circulated by Nigerian outlet Punch Newspapers depicted Joshua in the backseat of the car, appearing alert and without significant visible injuries, although broken glass surrounded his location. The publication indicated that two individuals died as a result of the crash, which occurred just before the Sagamu Exchange on the expressway. Local authorities dispatched medical teams to the scene to assist those affected.

Joshua, who has Nigerian heritage, frequently visits Nigeria, reflecting his strong ties to the country. The boxing star is known not only for his accomplishments in the ring but also for his commitment to his roots and community.

This incident highlights the ongoing concern regarding road safety in Nigeria, particularly on busy highways. The public and officials hope that further safety measures will be implemented to prevent such tragedies in the future.
