AUBURN, Ala. — The South Carolina women’s basketball team enjoyed a decisive 81-51 victory over Auburn on January 29, but the win was overshadowed by an injury to freshman guard Agot Makeer. Makeer, who was making her second consecutive start for the No. 3 Gamecocks (20-2, 6-1 SEC), was subbed out in the first quarter after experiencing pain and did not return to the game.

South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley offered minimal details on Makeer’s condition, stating, “No (status update), she’s in pain and that’s a bummer but we’ll get her back home and get her checked out.” Following her exit, Makeer reappeared at the bench with a wrap on her thigh or hip, still in her uniform.

Before her injury, Makeer had scored three points within the first four minutes of play, managing a layup in transition and a subsequent free throw. She had been averaging 6.7 points and 4.4 rebounds per game prior to this matchup.

Looking ahead, South Carolina will face Texas A&M on February 2, which allows Makeer an extra day to recover. The SEC injury report will be updated ahead of the game and once more an hour before tipoff scheduled for 8 p.m. ET in College Station.

This situation reflects the resilience and challenges faced by teams in the competitive Southeastern Conference, emphasizing the importance of player health as the season progresses.
