Fiji’s middle-distance running landscape is about to undergo a significant change with the departure of one of its standout young athletes, Abaramo Ratucove, who is set to travel to the United States on Tuesday. He has secured a two-year academic and athletic scholarship with Neosho Community College, marking a pivotal moment in his burgeoning career.

Ratucove, who hails from Bua, has gained recognition for his remarkable discipline, consistent training, and exceptional work ethic, quickly making a name for himself in both school and national competitions. This proud athlete has established himself as a formidable competitor, noted for his strategic approach to races and his impressive finishing abilities.

His accolades are impressive. Ratucove is a three-time gold medalist at the Coca-Cola Games in the 800m, having clocked a time of 2:03.80 to win the Intermediate Boys category in 2023 and achieving a personal best of 2:00.80 in the Senior Boys category in 2024. He has also demonstrated his versatility in the 1500m, further solidifying his reputation as one of Fiji’s brightest athletic talents.

His outstanding performances have earned him recognition on a national level, including a spot on Team Fiji for the upcoming 2024 Oceania Championships. Ratucove is currently ranked fourth in the country for both the men’s 800m and 1500m events and has been long-listed for the 2025 Mini Pacific Games.

As Ratucove embarks on this exciting journey abroad, he carries with him the pride and support of the Marist Brothers’ High School and the broader Fijian athletics community.
