A tragic sledding accident in Texas has claimed the life of 16-year-old Elizabeth Angle, a sophomore at Wakeland High School (WHS). Family and friends remember her as a spirited individual who was actively involved in multiple local soccer teams. The accident occurred on Sunday, January 25, at approximately 2:30 p.m. in Frisco when Angle and her friend, Grace, were sledding on a Jeep Wrangler. The sled hit a curb and crashed into a tree, resulting in critical injuries for both girls.

While Elizabeth did not survive her injuries and was declared dead at the hospital, her friend Grace remains on life support, as confirmed by Angle’s family. Elizabeth’s parents expressed their grief, highlighting her caring nature and the impact she had on those around her, leaving behind two sisters aged 12 and 18.

Luis Ramos, coach of Angle’s FC Dallas club soccer team, described her as a “calm voice” on the team who embodied strength and resilience on the field. He paid tribute to her on social media, stating, “God called her home not in defeat, but in victory. Still guarding. Still strong.”

WHS’s soccer team released a heartfelt message on social media to honor Elizabeth, asking the community to keep her family, friends, and teammates in their thoughts and prayers. Principal Donna Edge also extended condolences to Elizabeth’s parents in a letter, stating that she was well-loved by both peers and teachers, and that the entire school community is mourning this tragedy.

The WHS community is taking steps to offer support during this difficult time, with additional counselors made available at the school to assist students in processing their emotions following the incident. The school urged everyone to remember the families affected and to support one another in their grief.

An investigation into the incident is currently ongoing, with the Frisco Police Department collaborating with the Denton County District Attorney’s Office to determine if any criminal charges will be pursued. As the community mourns Elizabeth’s loss, her memory will undoubtedly continue to inspire those who knew her.
