Supriya Ganesh, who plays Dr. Samira Mohan on HBO’s medical drama The Pitt, will not appear at the PaleyFest LA panel about the show on Sunday, April 12, festival organizers confirmed to USA TODAY. The withdrawal comes days before the Season 2 finale on April 16 and follows the April 3 announcement that Ganesh would be leaving the series at the end of the season.
Ganesh told followers in an Instagram Stories post on April 10 that she “will not be at Paleyfest this Sunday,” writing that she understood some fans had bought tickets and promising the decision was not taken lightly. The post has since expired. Organizers did not give a reason for her absence; the PaleyFest panel is still listed to include executive producer R. Scott Gemmill and series stars Noah Wyle (Dr. Michael Robinavitch) and Katherine LaNasa (Dana Evans). USA TODAY has reached out to Ganesh’s representatives for further comment.
The actress’s planned absence follows a much-discussed creative exit announced earlier this month. On April 3, showrunners said Ganesh would depart The Pitt at the end of Season 2 — a choice framed by the series’ creators as a story-driven development consistent with the turnover typical of a teaching hospital. The decision marks another cast change for the medical drama: Tracy Ifeachor’s character, Dr. Heather Collins, left at the conclusion of Season 1.
Ganesh, 28, joined the cast in Season 1 and quickly became a viewer favorite for her portrayal of Dr. Samira Mohan, a young physician whose arc has included intense professional pressure and personal struggles. The character’s Season 2 storyline drew particular attention, and Ganesh has been a visible presence at industry events this year, appearing at awards and young-Hollywood gatherings.
Producers have already signaled how the show will move forward: Ayesha Harris, who plays night-shift resident Dr. Parker Ellis, has been promoted to series regular for Season 3. Harris celebrated the promotion on Instagram, writing in part, “Dr. ELLIS got student loans to pay off, we gotta work a double shift!” She also added a message aimed at Ganesh: “Thank you for being a real one, from day one!”

PaleyFest is scheduled to take place four days before The Pitt’s Season 2 finale, a timing that had made the panel a focus for fans hoping to hear about the upcoming episode and the creative direction of the series. With Ganesh’s exit confirmed on April 3 and her PaleyFest withdrawal announced on April 10, organizers and the show’s producers must now proceed without one of the cast members who helped define the series’ early seasons. No replacement or additional panel changes have been announced.
