Ricciardo’s Departure: What’s Next for RB Formula One?

Visa Cash App RB Formula One Team has officially announced that Daniel Ricciardo has departed the team immediately. His replacement will be Liam Lawson, a driver from Red Bull’s junior program, concluding weeks of speculation surrounding Ricciardo’s status.

After losing his seat for the 2023 season following his exit from McLaren, Ricciardo joined RB (formerly Alpha Tauri) mid-season to take over for Nyck De Vries, who was deemed to be underperforming. He was set to be out of contract at the end of the current season and was rumored to be making a return to the main Red Bull team, but the decision was made by RB to replace him sooner than anticipated.

Ricciardo shared his thoughts on Instagram, expressing his love for the sport and gratitude towards those who have been a part of his racing journey. He thanked the teams, fans, and individuals involved in his career, stating that despite the ups and downs, he has enjoyed the experience and wouldn’t change a thing.

RB Team Principal Laurent Mekies praised Ricciardo for his contributions over the last two seasons, highlighting his experience, talent, and positive attitude that helped foster team spirit. He acknowledged Ricciardo as a gentleman both on and off the track, noting that he would be greatly missed.

Over his 14 seasons in Formula One, Ricciardo has established an impressive career with eight race wins, 32 podium finishes, and a total of 1,329 points across 257 races. He last competed at the Singapore Grand Prix, finishing in 18th place.

Having begun his F1 journey with HRT in 2011, Ricciardo joined Toro Rosso the following year before moving up to the main Red Bull team in 2014, where he achieved significant success, including eight wins.

Reflecting on his career, Ricciardo admitted to initially struggling with confidence when he entered the sport, but credited the Red Bull program with helping him mature and grow.

Following a stint with Renault, he joined McLaren but faced challenges during his time there, though he celebrated a memorable victory at the 2021 Italian Grand Prix.

Ricciardo expressed pride in his accomplishments but noted a desire to win a world championship to complete his career goals.

As RB shifts towards a younger roster, Lawson, who has previously filled in for Ricciardo due to injury and acted as a reserve driver for both teams, is poised to make his full-time racing debut at the upcoming US Grand Prix in Austin, Texas next month.
